Vulcan XM597 was on her way back to Ascension Island from a missile strike when trouble struck. While refuelling from a Victor tanker aircraft, she fractured a fuel probe. Short of fuel and in serious difficulty, the Vulcan was forced to divert to Rio de Janeiro Airport in Brazil.
