Based at RAF Duxford and later RAF Wittering, the AFDU conducted rigorous trials of new aircraft, weapons, and aerial tactics. It played a key role in developing effective dogfighting strategies and optimizing aircraft like the Spitfire, Hurricane, and later the Tempest and Mustang.
